LG Sandhu Emphasizes Citizen Role for Greener Delhi

New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Saturday interacted with fitness enthusiasts, senior citizens and local residents at Bonta Park in Kamla Nehru Ridge, where he stressed that citizen participation is essential for creating a healthier, greener and more liveable capital.

Community Engagement at Bonta Park

The LG joined community members in the park, which attracts around 4,000 visitors daily, and reviewed the facilities, including open-air gyms, yoga spaces and recreational areas. He emphasized the shared responsibility of all citizens in the development and maintenance of Delhi.

During the visit, representatives of community groups raised concerns about park infrastructure, cleanliness, water facilities, entry points, and maintenance. LG Sandhu directed Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officials to ensure timely resolution of these issues and maintain regular follow-up. As chairperson of the DDA, he underscored the importance of addressing public grievances promptly.

Environmental Measures and Ecological Initiatives

Recently, the government declared the Northern Ridge a reserved forest, a move aimed at providing stronger legal protection to the ecologically sensitive area and preventing encroachments. Officials also briefed Sandhu on efforts to strengthen the Ridge ecosystem through biodiversity zones and ecological restoration initiatives to improve environmental quality.

The LG's visit highlighted the administration's commitment to enhancing urban green spaces and fostering community involvement in civic affairs. By directing DDA to prioritize park maintenance and ecological restoration, the LG aims to ensure a sustainable and vibrant environment for all residents.
