Lucknow Municipal Corporation Employs Drone Technology for Enhanced Cleanliness Oversight

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has announced a groundbreaking initiative to deploy drones for real-time monitoring of cleanliness across the city. This innovative approach aims to assess ground conditions with precision and establish clear accountability for any sanitation lapses that may occur.

Drone Surveillance for Accurate Assessment

According to officials, drone surveys will provide aerial shots that help identify areas of negligence and pinpoint the specific staff members responsible for maintenance. This technology enables a comprehensive evaluation of sanitation performance, allowing for prompt corrective actions where needed.

New Grading System for Municipal Officials

The corporation is introducing a detailed grading system to evaluate the performance of sanitation personnel. Additional municipal commissioners and zonal officers will have clearly defined responsibilities and will be graded based on specific cleanliness and waste disposal parameters. This structured approach ensures that accountability is maintained at every level of the sanitation hierarchy.

Enhanced Supervision and Reporting Mechanisms

To strengthen ground-level monitoring, supervisors will be assigned specific street-cleaning duties between designated beat points. These supervisors will conduct daily inspections and submit detailed reports to senior officials, ensuring continuous oversight and timely intervention when issues arise.

Progress in Waste Collection and Future Goals

Officials reported significant progress in waste management, with door-to-door garbage collection in residential areas and commercial waste collection in 16 model wards achieving an impressive 92% coverage rate. The municipal commissioner has directed officials to strive for 100% coverage and to impose penalties on residents and establishments that fail to comply with proper waste disposal protocols.

In model wards, special emphasis has been placed on eliminating unauthorized or temporary garbage dumping points. All such locations must be identified and removed, with waste collection strictly limited to designated vehicles. Despite these efforts, some households and commercial establishments continue to dump garbage openly instead of utilizing collection services.

Strict Enforcement and Public Awareness Initiatives

To address non-compliance, zonal sanitation officers will conduct random checks and impose fines on violators. Additionally, the corporation plans to publicize ward-wise garbage collection vehicle timings on its official social media platforms to improve public awareness and encourage greater participation in scheduled waste disposal practices.

Comprehensive Drain Management Strategy

On the front of drain management, officials have been instructed to prepare detailed source-mapping and action plans for all drains throughout the city. The commissioner emphasized that no polluted water from drains should flow untreated into the Gomti River, highlighting the environmental importance of this initiative.

Regular monitoring of sewage treatment plants will cover multiple aspects, including operational status, capacity utilization, and the quality of treated water discharged from outlets. This comprehensive approach ensures that sanitation efforts extend beyond surface cleanliness to address broader environmental concerns.

The integration of drone technology, combined with stringent grading systems and public engagement, represents a significant step forward in Lucknow's urban sanitation management, setting a potential benchmark for other municipalities to follow.
