Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway Toll Structure Unveiled by National Highways Authority
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially announced the toll pricing structure for the much-anticipated Lucknow-Kanpur expressway, which is poised to significantly enhance connectivity between these two major Uttar Pradesh cities. According to the detailed plan, vehicle owners will need to pay Rs 275 for a one-way journey covering the 63-kilometer distance once the expressway opens for public use.
Comprehensive Toll and Annual Pass Details
For those making a return trip within a 24-hour period, the applicable toll fee will be Rs 415. However, in a move designed to make the expressway more affordable for frequent travelers, NHAI will introduce an annual pass service priced at Rs 3,075. This pass authorizes a vehicle to make 200 trips through designated toll plazas within one year from the date of issuance, effectively allowing for 100 round trips.
A senior officer from NHAI's Kanpur regional office clarified the economic benefits, stating, "Many have expressed concerns about affordability, but the annual pass dramatically reduces costs. For regular commuters, the per-ride expense drops to approximately Rs 15.30 instead of the standard Rs 275 one-way charge." The officer emphasized that this pass will be valid not only on the Lucknow-Kanpur expressway but also on other national highways within the region.
Expressway Specifications and Traffic Regulations
The six-lane access-controlled expressway has been engineered to support speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. Notably, two-wheelers and three-wheelers will be prohibited from using this high-speed corridor, ensuring safety and maintaining traffic flow efficiency. The expressway originates at Miranpur Pinvat village in Sarojininagar and terminates at Kader Patari village in Unnao, strategically positioned 5.5 kilometers ahead of the existing Jajmau Ganga bridge on the Lucknow-Kanpur national highway.
Infrastructure Investment and Integration Plans
This major infrastructure project carries an estimated total cost of Rs 3,700 crore, with Rs 3,000 crore allocated specifically for civil construction works and the remaining funds dedicated to private land acquisition. NHAI officials have confirmed that the expressway is fully prepared to handle traffic, with the opening date awaiting final directives from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Gautam Vishal, Regional Officer from NHAI's UP West Office, revealed additional connectivity plans, stating, "We have accelerated work on the Kanpur ring road, which will integrate with the Lucknow-Kanpur expressway at Kader Patari. This integration will provide motorists with alternative routes to bypass city traffic entirely." The completion of the Kanpur ring road is projected to take approximately two years, further enhancing regional transportation networks.
