Lucknow Faces LPG Booking Crisis as IVRS and Digital Services Fail
Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) services for LPG booking remained completely unresponsive across multiple areas of Lucknow on Thursday, forcing residents to personally visit gas agencies. A reality check conducted by Times of India revealed widespread failures in official booking channels, leading to significant inconvenience for consumers.
Complete Breakdown of Booking Systems
Consumers reported that booking attempts through official phone numbers, WhatsApp services, and online systems largely failed throughout the day. This systemic failure left countless residents with no alternative but to approach agencies directly, where they encountered extensive queues and uncertainty regarding delivery schedules.
Large crowds were observed outside agencies in Rajajipuram, Dubagga, Lalkuan, Lalbagh, and Sadar areas. Residents consistently reported that booking lines remained unanswered, and advertised WhatsApp services provided no response whatsoever.
Residents Share Their Frustrating Experiences
Noori, a resident of Sadar Bazaar who receives her LPG from a distributor in Lalkuan, described repeated failed attempts to book a refill over the phone. "Calls to the official number either did not connect or brought no clear response," she explained. With Ramzan currently underway, she emphasized how the communication breakdown made it exceptionally difficult for families to plan their daily cooking requirements.
Uzma Kidwai from Burlington reported similar issues, noting that the WhatsApp numbers advertised for quick bookings failed to respond. "Without updates on cylinder availability or delivery schedules, we were left guessing when our refill would actually arrive," she observed.
Shakeel Ahmad added that calls to customer care helplines went unanswered, while delivery personnel cited server problems as the reason booking numbers weren't connecting properly.
Agency Chaos and Additional Requirements
At an Indane agency in Rajajipuram, residents stood in long queues while staff members asked customers to complete KYC formalities again before initiating any bookings. Shivam Pandey, who waited for hours, reported that agency staff attributed the problem to server issues affecting booking numbers.
Similar scenes unfolded at an LPG agency in Dubagga, where residents waited for hours under direct sunlight. Saurabh, standing in the queue, noted that "the absence of clear information on booking or delivery created confusion among consumers trying to arrange refills."
Delivery Delays Compound the Problem
Even confirmed bookings failed to ensure timely delivery. Sweta Mishra from Nirala Nagar revealed she had booked a refill three days prior, but the cylinder still hadn't arrived. Priyanka Verma noted that deliveries which previously took just one day were now stretching into several days.
Distributors Cite Supply Constraints
Distributors attributed the situation to supply constraints combined with rising demand. An agency operator in Aliganj explained that while the booking system was technically accepting requests, stocks from bottling plants had declined significantly. With deliveries strictly following waiting lists, the limited supply inevitably caused substantial delays.
The widespread service failure has highlighted critical vulnerabilities in Lucknow's LPG distribution system, particularly during periods of increased demand when reliable booking mechanisms are most essential.
