Lucknow LPG Crisis: Digital Booking Systems Collapse, Residents Endure Hours-Long Queues

LPG consumers across multiple neighborhoods in Lucknow encountered significant difficulties booking refills on Thursday as the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) and various digital booking platforms experienced widespread failures. This technical breakdown compelled residents to form lengthy lines outside distribution agencies, with many waiting for hours in frustration.

Widespread Digital Platform Failures

Consumers reported that attempts to book cylinders through official phone numbers, WhatsApp services, and online systems largely proved unsuccessful. A reality check conducted on Thursday revealed heavy crowds gathered outside agencies in key areas including Rajajipuram, Dubagga, Lalkuan, Lalbagh, and Sadar. Residents consistently described booking lines that remained unanswered and WhatsApp services that failed to respond, leaving them with no alternative but to approach agencies directly.

Even those who managed to place bookings faced subsequent delivery delays, compounding the inconvenience. The timing is particularly problematic with Ramzan underway, as families rely on consistent cooking fuel for daily meals.

Resident Testimonies Highlight Communication Breakdown

Noori, a resident of Sadar Bazaar who obtains her LPG from a distributor in Lalkuan, shared her experience: "Repeated attempts to book a refill over the phone failed as calls to the official number either did not connect or provided no clear response. With Ramzan ongoing, this lack of communication has made it extremely difficult for families to plan our daily cooking routines."

Similar problems were echoed by residents in other localities. Uzma Kidwai from Burlington noted that the WhatsApp numbers advertised for quick bookings did not respond at all. She observed that without updates on cylinder availability or delivery schedules, people are left guessing when their refills might arrive.

Shakeel Ahmad also reported unanswered calls to the customer care helpline, adding that delivery personnel cited server problems as the reason booking numbers were not connecting properly.

Agency Scenes: Long Queues and Administrative Hurdles

At an agency in Rajajipuram, residents stood in long queues while staff asked customers to complete KYC formalities again before initiating bookings. Shivam Pandey, who had been waiting for hours, said agency staff attributed the problem to server issues affecting the entire system.

Heavy crowds were similarly reported at an LPG agency in Dubagga. Saurabh, standing in the queue, commented that the absence of clear information regarding booking procedures or delivery timelines has created widespread confusion among consumers.

Identical scenes were witnessed in Lalbagh and Lalkuan, indicating a city-wide issue rather than isolated incidents.

Delivery Delays Despite Confirmed Bookings

The problems extended beyond initial booking difficulties. Even confirmed bookings failed to ensure timely delivery. Sweta Mishra from Nirala Nagar revealed she booked a refill three days ago, but the cylinder has not arrived yet. Priyanka Verma noted that deliveries which previously took approximately a day were now stretching into several days, disrupting household schedules.

Distributors Cite Supply Constraints and Rising Demand

Distributors attributed the situation to a combination of supply constraints and increasing demand. An agency operator in Aliganj explained that while the booking system was technically accepting requests, stocks from bottling plants had declined significantly. With deliveries strictly following the waiting list, the limited supply was causing inevitable delays throughout the distribution chain.

The convergence of technical failures, supply issues, and heightened demand during Ramzan has created a perfect storm for Lucknow's LPG consumers, leaving many uncertain about when they will receive essential cooking fuel.
