Ludhiana MC Debars Firm, Reviews 205 Resolutions in 2 Days

Ludhiana MC's Finance Committee Intensifies Urban Project Scrutiny

In a rigorous effort to enhance municipal governance, the Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC) of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) held its second consecutive day of meetings on Thursday at the mayor's camp office. Over two days, the committee meticulously reviewed a total of 205 resolutions, with 105 addressed on the second day alone, focusing on contractor accountability and modernizing civic infrastructure.

Strict Actions and Key Decisions on Urban Development

The committee took a firm stance on project timelines by debarring a contracting firm that failed to initiate work on a city park despite receiving a formal work order. This move underscores the MC's commitment to enforcing deadlines and ensuring efficient project execution. While proposals for road and sewerage work were generally approved, the committee exercised caution by rejecting a part-time lawyer appointment and construction work in Kundanpuri. Additionally, plans for an "open gym" were kept pending, and several other proposals were returned for cost re-estimation to ensure fiscal prudence.

Infrastructure Upgrades and Transparency Measures

Addressing concerns over existing infrastructure, the F&CC approved the purchase of four new encroachment-lifting vehicles—one for each zone—doubling the initial request from the tehbazaari branch to combat the "pathetic condition" of temporary encroachments. However, the committee maintained transparency in sanitation matters, holding back resolutions for recruiting sanitation staff and sewer cleaners for the second day. Mayor Inderjit Kaur and members indicated that a special committee to examine these needs will be announced soon. Officials were also questioned on delays in "super suction" sewer cleaning, with the committee demanding a detailed report on uncleaned areas and reasons for ongoing hold-ups.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Mayor Inderjit Kaur, Municipal Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta, Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Parashar, and Deputy Mayor Prince Johar, along with zonal and joint commissioners. With a significant portion of agendas already processed, the remaining proposals are scheduled for discussion on February 2, highlighting the MC's proactive approach to urban management and accountability.
