Ludhiana MLA Inaugurates Water Pipeline in Model Town Under Major Canal Project
In a significant development for Ludhiana's infrastructure, Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu inaugurated a crucial water supply pipeline installation project in the Model Town area, specifically Ward Number 51, on Wednesday. This initiative marks a key step forward under the ambitious canal-based water supply project aimed at enhancing the city's water distribution network.
Project Details and Financial Investment
The newly inaugurated project involves the installation of a 1-kilometer pipeline at an estimated cost of approximately Rs 1.2 crore. Accompanied by area councillor Komalpreet Monty Sachdeva, MLA Sidhu highlighted that the pipeline is being installed to connect with an existing overhead water reservoir (OHSR) in the area, ensuring efficient water supply to residents.
MLA's Emphasis on Safety and Timely Completion
During the inauguration, MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu emphasized the importance of people-centric projects being implemented across the state. He stated that officials have been directed to take all necessary safety measures to protect residents during the pipeline installation process. Furthermore, strict instructions have been issued to ensure the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe, minimizing disruptions to the community.
Broader Context of the Canal-Based Water Supply Project
This pipeline installation is part of the first phase of a larger canal-based water supply project, which is being funded by international institutions including the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The overall project, with an estimated cost of around Rs 1,300 crore, encompasses several critical components:
- Establishment of a world-class water treatment plant (WTP) in Bilga village near Sahnewal.
- Installation of multiple overhead water reservoirs and associated pipelines across various parts of Ludhiana.
- Enhancement of the city's water infrastructure to meet growing demands and improve service reliability.
The inauguration of the Model Town pipeline underscores the ongoing efforts to modernize Ludhiana's water supply system, aiming to provide residents with better access to clean and consistent water resources through this comprehensive, multi-crore initiative.
