Madurai Division Faces Major Train Disruptions for April Track Maintenance
In a significant operational update, the Madurai division of Indian Railways has announced extensive disruptions to train services throughout the month of April. These changes are necessitated by a fixed-time corridor block dedicated to essential track renewal and maintenance works, impacting numerous long-distance routes.
Key Train Diversions and Route Alterations
Several prominent express trains will operate on diverted paths, bypassing critical stations to facilitate the maintenance activities. Notable diversions include:
- The Nagercoil–Mumbai CST Express, Kanyakumari–Howrah Superfast Express, and Kanyakumari–Hyderabad Express will be rerouted via Madurai, Manamadurai, Karaikudi, and Trichy. This diversion means these trains will skip their usual stoppages at Dindigul and Kodaikanal Road.
- To compensate for the skipped stations, additional halts have been scheduled at Manamadurai, Sivaganga, Karaikudi, and Pudukkottai, ensuring connectivity for passengers along the alternative route.
- Similarly, the Guruvayur–Chennai Egmore Express and Tuticorin–Kacheguda Express will also be diverted, taking a path via Virudhunagar, Manamadurai, Karaikudi, and Trichy. This adjustment results in the omission of key stops including Madurai and Dindigul, with intermediate stations added to maintain service.
Additional Service Adjustments and Cancellations
Further disruptions extend to other express services, with multiple trains facing route changes or operational halts. For instance:
- The Sengottai–Mayiladuthurai Express, Ernakulam–Velankanni Express, and Mayiladuthurai–Sengottai Express will operate on diverted routes, bypassing stations such as Dindigul, Madurai, and adjoining stops. Additional halts are being accommodated along these diversions to minimize passenger inconvenience.
- In terms of cancellations, the Erode–Sengottai Express is fully cancelled on April 8, 15, and 29, while the Sengottai–Erode Express faces full cancellations on April 9, 16, and 30.
- Partial cancellations are also in effect: the Erode–Sengottai Express will be partially cancelled between Dindigul and Sengottai from April 3 to 6, 9 to 12, 16 to 20, and 23 to 27. Correspondingly, the Sengottai–Erode Express will be partially cancelled between Sengottai and Dindigul from April 4 to 7, 10 to 13, 17 to 21, and 24 to 28.
Passengers are advised to check with railway authorities for real-time updates and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid disruptions during this period of intensive maintenance work.
