Maharashtra Greenlights Rs 387 Crore Disaster Data Recovery Centre in Nagpur
In a significant move to fortify the security and continuity of Maharashtra's digital governance framework, the state government has officially approved the establishment of an independent Disaster Data Recovery Centre (DRC) in Nagpur. This project, sanctioned at a substantial cost of Rs 387 crore, is designed to safeguard critical departmental data, essential portals, and vital public services from potential disruptions.
Enhancing Digital Resilience and Administrative Continuity
While Maharashtra's primary data centre is already operational, state authorities have recognized the urgent need for a robust continuity mechanism to ensure uninterrupted administrative functioning during emergencies. Such scenarios include natural disasters, technical failures, or sophisticated cyberattacks that could compromise digital systems.
The initiative follows directives issued by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a comprehensive review meeting of the government's ambitious 100-day action plan. The new DRC will be strategically located in Nagpur, serving as a backup facility to maintain seamless government operations even in the face of technical disruptions.
Detailed Project Timeline and Implementation Strategy
The project's execution is structured into a meticulous timeline to ensure efficiency and effectiveness:
- Site Planning and Civil Works: Allocated two months for initial groundwork and construction.
- Non-IT Preparations: Dedicated two months for logistical and administrative setup.
- Hardware and Network Installation: Scheduled for three months to establish core infrastructure.
- Software and Security Configurations: Set for one month to implement necessary applications and protective measures.
- Testing and Optimization: Final month allocated for rigorous testing and system fine-tuning.
Once fully operational, the Disaster Data Recovery Centre will enable government systems to function seamlessly, minimizing downtime and ensuring public service delivery remains unaffected by unforeseen technical issues.
Funding and Oversight for the Digital Initiative
Funding for this critical project will be sourced from provisions sanctioned for the state's e-governance initiatives, managed through the Maharashtra State SETU Society. The Directorate of Information Technology's director will oversee the implementation, ensuring adherence to technical standards and project milestones.
Officials have emphasized that this facility will significantly bolster Maharashtra's digital infrastructure, enhancing the resilience and reliability of government services. By establishing a dedicated recovery centre, the state aims to proactively address vulnerabilities and strengthen its capacity to handle digital emergencies, thereby safeguarding public trust and administrative efficiency in an increasingly digital era.
