The Mohali Municipal Corporation has officially launched a month-long campaign titled 'Catch the Rain-2026' aimed at promoting rainwater harvesting and water conservation through active public participation. The initiative focuses on creating awareness among residents about the critical importance of conserving water, protecting water bodies, augmenting groundwater resources, and adopting sustainable water management practices to ensure long-term water security in the region.
Campaign Objectives and Activities
As part of the campaign, the Municipal Corporation will organize a series of awareness and community outreach activities. These include Jal Samvad programmes, plantation drives, and cleanliness drives around water bodies. The Jal Samvad sessions are designed to facilitate direct dialogue between citizens and officials on water conservation issues. Additionally, a comprehensive social media awareness campaign will be undertaken to encourage greater public engagement and participation.
The Municipal Corporation has appealed to a wide range of stakeholders—including residents, educational institutions, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), industrial units, commercial establishments, and civil society organizations—to actively support and participate in the initiative. The goal is to foster a community-wide effort to address water scarcity and promote sustainable water use.
Call for Public Participation
Officials emphasized that water conservation is a collective responsibility. According to a spokesperson from the Mohali Municipal Corporation, 'Active participation from all sections of society is essential to make this campaign a success. We urge everyone to join hands in conserving every drop of water.' The campaign aims to not only raise awareness but also implement practical measures such as installing rainwater harvesting systems and maintaining local water bodies.
The 'Catch the Rain-2026' campaign is expected to run for one month, with a series of events planned across different wards of the city. The Municipal Corporation will also provide technical guidance to residents and RWAs on setting up rainwater harvesting structures. This initiative aligns with the national 'Catch the Rain' campaign launched by the Government of India to promote water conservation across the country.
