Major Traffic Diversion Scheduled for Mumbai-Pune Expressway This Week
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced significant traffic disruptions on the crucial Mumbai-Pune Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway. In an official release issued on Tuesday, authorities confirmed that temporary traffic diversions will be implemented for several hours on both April 23 and April 24, 2024.
Bridge Maintenance Work Necessitates Closure
The scheduled block is essential for completing critical bridge maintenance operations near the Dongargaon-Kusgaon section. According to MSRDC officials, the work involves the removal of shuttering and comprehensive painting of the bridge structure, requiring complete traffic stoppage during specific time windows.
The traffic closure is planned from 12:00 AM to 3:00 PM on both April 23 and April 24, 2024. This extended timeframe allows maintenance crews to safely execute the necessary work while minimizing overall disruption to the vital transportation corridor.
Detailed Diversion Routes Announced
MSRDC has established clear alternative routes for affected commuters:
April 23 (Mumbai-bound traffic closure): All vehicles traveling toward Mumbai will face complete closure in the affected section during the three-hour block. Traffic will be systematically diverted via the Kiwale-Dehu Road-Talegaon route onto National Highway 48, with vehicles rejoining the expressway at the Kusgaon toll plaza.
April 24 (Pune-bound traffic closure): Similarly, traffic moving toward Pune will be completely shut from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on April 24. Vehicles will be diverted from the Kusgaon toll plaza via National Highway 48 through the Dehu Road-Kiwale route as an alternative pathway.
Emergency Contact Information
The MSRDC release emphasized that commuters experiencing difficulties or requiring assistance during the diversion period can contact emergency helplines. The MSRDC control room can be reached at 9822498224, while the highway police helpline is available at 9833498334.
Authorities advise travelers to plan their journeys accordingly, considering potential delays during the scheduled maintenance period. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway remains India's first access-controlled expressway and serves as a critical transportation artery connecting Maharashtra's two major economic hubs.
