Mysuru Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) P Shivaraju has issued directives for an urgent survey of lakes in the district and the eviction of all encroachments. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting held at the deputy commissioner's office on Thursday.
Meeting Highlights
The meeting was attended by key officials including the Deputy Director of Land Records (DDLR), Tahsildars from various taluks, and representatives from the Environment and Water Resources departments. The ADC emphasized the need for immediate action to protect water bodies from illegal occupation.
Survey and Eviction Plan
According to officials, the survey will cover all major and minor lakes in Mysuru district. Encroachments identified during the survey will be removed without delay. The ADC has instructed the revenue and water resources departments to coordinate closely to ensure the process is completed within a stipulated timeframe.
This move comes amid growing concerns over the shrinking of lake boundaries due to unauthorized constructions and agricultural activities. The district administration aims to restore the original boundaries of lakes to prevent flooding and preserve the ecosystem.
Further details regarding the timeline and specific areas to be covered are expected to be released soon. The ADC has also sought a progress report from all tahsildars within a week.
