Mysuru DC Halts Cable Works for 15 Days Over Water Damage

Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy on Monday ordered a 15-day halt to the ongoing underground power cable-laying works in Mysuru and directed officials to restore damaged drinking water infrastructure in affected areas.

Meeting Directives

Chairing a progress review meeting with Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and other department officials at his office, the DC asked the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), which has taken up 400 km of underground cable works, to stop the work for 15 days and repair damaged drinking water pipelines, sewer lines and underground drainage systems across the city.

The district administration has received complaints against the CESC for damaging drinking water supply lines in several areas, resulting in water supply disruptions. The DC directed MCC and CESC officials to jointly inspect the damaged locations, submit a list of affected areas, and complete repairs within 15 days to restore the water supply in the affected wards.

Summer Priority

Citing summer conditions, the DC asked officials to give top priority to the drinking water supply. He cautioned that officials would be held responsible if damage to drinking water pipelines caused during underground cable-laying works or road works is not repaired. On road works, the DC directed MCC officials to carry out the ongoing white-topping work on Manandavadi Road without damaging drinking water pipelines or disrupting water supply to residents.

He said the State government had approved the white topping of 12 arterial roads in the city, including Manandavadi Road, which connects the National Institute of Engineering College Road. He said white topping of Bogadi Road and Vishwamanava Double Road would be taken up in the first phase.

Road Work Precautions

The DC also directed public works department and MCC officials to reverify Bogadi Road and submit a report within two days before taking up white-topping on the stretch. The work should be taken up only after his approval, he said, and asked officials to take all precautions to avoid damage to drinking water pipelines during the works.

MCC commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif, executive engineer Manju and CESC superintending engineer Sunil were present.
