Nagpur Zilla Parishad Sets New Standard with ISO 9001:2015 Certification
In a significant achievement for rural governance, the Zilla Parishad Nagpur has been awarded the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 certification. This recognition extends beyond the district level, encompassing seven out of the 13 Panchayat Samitis and an impressive 300 out of 761 Gram Panchayats within the Nagpur district. The certification marks a major milestone in enhancing administrative efficiency and service quality across rural areas.
Comprehensive Audit and Systematic Reforms
The certification process involved a thorough audit conducted by an independent assessment agency, which meticulously evaluated administrative systems, documentation practices, and citizen service mechanisms. Officials highlighted that the audit focused on key areas such as clearly defined procedures, structured record management systems, and measurable service delivery standards. Over the past year, the district administration implemented systematic reforms, including improvements in file tracking, digital record-keeping, and inter-departmental coordination. Periodic internal reviews were conducted to ensure alignment with quality management norms before the external audit.
Leadership and Team Efforts
Chief Executive Officer Vinayak Mahamuni emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating, "ISO 9001:2015 is a commitment to maintain quality standards consistently and to further improve service delivery." The implementation team included Additional CEO Kamalkishore Phutane, Deputy CEOs Anshuja Garate and Kapilnath Kalode, Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Kumudini Shrikhande, and officers from the general administration department such as Vasantha Bhajabhuje, Sushma Vairagade, and Kalpana Khudsange. Their collective efforts were instrumental in developing and documenting the required systems to meet ISO standards.
Future Plans and Impact
Authorities have indicated that efforts are underway to extend ISO certification to the remaining Panchayat Samitis and Gram Panchayats in a phased manner. The administration anticipates that uniform adoption of quality standards across all tiers will significantly strengthen accountability and institutional consistency in rural governance throughout Nagpur district. This initiative is expected to set a benchmark for other districts, promoting transparency and efficiency in public service delivery.
