District Magistrates in Bihar Review Comprehensive Plans for Upcoming Census 2027
In a significant administrative move, district magistrates in Bihar have initiated detailed reviews of the extensive preparations required for the upcoming Census 2027. This massive national exercise will be conducted in two distinct phases, with the first phase scheduled from May 2 to May 31, 2026, and the second phase running from February 9 to February 28, 2027.
Nalanda District Magistrate Kundan Kumar Leads Preparatory Assessment
Nalanda District Magistrate Kundan Kumar convened a crucial review meeting on Thursday with concerned officials to thoroughly evaluate the district's readiness for the census operations. During this comprehensive session, DM Kumar emphasized that Phase I will specifically focus on house listing and housing census activities. A groundbreaking feature of this census will be the introduction of a self-enumeration facility, available from April 17 to May 1, 2026, through a dedicated online portal.
This innovative self-enumeration process will allow families to independently fill in their details by responding to a set of 33 carefully designed questions. The data submitted through this digital platform will subsequently undergo rigorous verification through systematic door-to-door visits by trained enumerators between May 2 and May 31, 2026. During these field visits, necessary corrections can also be implemented to ensure maximum accuracy.
Structural Framework and Training Initiatives
The administrative structure for the census has been meticulously planned, with one enumerator assigned for every 700–800 people and one supervisor overseeing every six enumerators. The district statistical officer provided a detailed update, confirming that all preliminary preparations have been successfully completed. These preparations include the formation of specialized census cells, comprehensive training of officials, identification of special areas requiring particular attention, creation of administrative IDs, and selection of a competent manpower agency.
Training programs for enumerators are scheduled to take place from April 13 to April 24, 2026, ensuring that all field personnel are thoroughly prepared for their critical roles. For the first time in census history, the self-enumeration facility will enable families to submit their details online and obtain a unique self-enumeration ID (SEID). This digital identifier will be verified and updated by enumerators during their subsequent field visits, creating a seamless integration between online submission and physical verification.
Madhubani District Magistrate Anand Sharma Conducts Parallel Review
In a parallel development, Madhubani District Magistrate Anand Sharma also convened a separate meeting with senior district-level officers at the collectorate's conference hall. This session focused specifically on reviewing preparations for the smooth and successful implementation of the self-enumeration process, scheduled from April 17 to May 1, 2026.
During this detailed briefing, officers received comprehensive information about the self-enumeration procedure through an engaging audio-visual presentation. DM Sharma issued clear directives to all concerned officers, emphasizing the need for effective implementation of the process in their respective jurisdictional areas. Both district magistrates have stressed the importance of ensuring timely and accurate completion of all census-related activities, recognizing the critical role this data plays in national planning and development.
The coordinated efforts in both Nalanda and Madhubani districts demonstrate a proactive approach to embracing technological advancements while maintaining the rigorous standards of data collection that have characterized India's census operations for decades.
