Nashik Municipal Corporation Grants 15-Day Extension for Kumbh Mela Road Utility Works
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has officially announced a 15-day extension for completing critical utility-related works on 28 major city roads. These roads are being developed as part of the extensive infrastructure upgrades planned for the upcoming 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela. The new deadline has been set for March 31, effectively pushing back the earlier target of March 15.
Essential Infrastructure Development Ahead of Massive Pilgrimage
This extension provides various civic departments and government agencies with additional time to finalize the laying of crucial underground infrastructure. The 28 roads in question are a vital component of the large-scale Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela development programme. With major utility ducts currently under construction, NMC officials emphasize that the extra time is indispensable for agencies to complete their pending tasks before full-fledged road construction can commence.
The ducts being installed are designed to house a comprehensive network of utilities, including:
- Water supply networks
- Drainage lines
- Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) lines
- Piped natural gas lines
- Stormwater channels
By creating dedicated underground corridors for these utilities, the civic body aims to eliminate any future road digging. This strategic move is a key aspect of ensuring smooth mobility and efficient management during the massive pilgrimage, which is expected to draw millions of devotees.
Official Confirmation and Next Steps
City engineer Sanjay Agrawal has confirmed the extension, stating that once all utilities are securely in place, the NMC will immediately commence the road development phase. This phased approach is intended to streamline the construction process and minimize disruptions, ultimately contributing to the successful execution of the Kumbh Mela preparations.
The development underscores the NMC's commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure in anticipation of the significant religious event, with a focus on long-term sustainability and operational efficiency.
