Nashik Municipal Corporation Extends Deadline for Critical Infrastructure Works Ahead of 2027 Kumbh Mela

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has officially set a new deadline of March 15 for various departments and government agencies to complete essential utility service works on 28 key city roads. These roads are undergoing significant development in preparation for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, scheduled for 2027. This deadline represents an extension from the previous cutoff of February 28, providing additional time for agencies to finalize their tasks before the civic body initiates major road development projects.

Comprehensive Utility Duct Installation to Prevent Future Disruptions

Currently, construction is underway on utility ducts designed to accommodate multiple services, including water supply, drainage lines, Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) lines, piped natural gas, and storm water lines. Municipal Commissioner Manisha Khatri emphasized that this proactive approach aims to eliminate the need for future road digging, thereby preventing damage and extending the lifespan of the roads. "We are making provision of utility ducts for six services so that there is no need for digging the roads in the future. This may avoid damage to the roads and will increase its life," Khatri stated during a press briefing.

In addition, the NMC has specifically instructed the Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) to complete its proposed gas pipeline laying works on these 28 roads before the March 15 deadline. This coordinated effort ensures that all utility services are integrated seamlessly into the infrastructure.

Road Development Strategy and Funding Approval

Once the utility works are completed, the NMC will proceed with leveling the roads, followed by the commencement of actual road construction. According to a civic official, out of the 28 roads, 14 will be constructed using white topping technology, while the remaining will be asphalted. This strategic mix aims to enhance durability and traffic management in the bustling city.

The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority has approved these 28 roads, with an estimated worth of Rs 1,250 crore, to the municipal corporation. This substantial investment underscores the importance of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, a major religious event expected to draw millions of pilgrims and tourists, necessitating robust urban infrastructure.

Khatri further explained the timeline, noting, "Once the utility works are completed, the leveling of these roads will be completed and then the actual road works will be started." This phased approach ensures that all preparatory steps are meticulously handled to support the large-scale event in 2027, aligning with broader urban development goals in Nashik.
