NDMC Unveils 24x7 Water Supply Pilot Project in Vinay Marg to Enhance Drinking Water Access

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has officially launched a groundbreaking 24x7 water supply pilot project at Vinay Marg on Tuesday, marking a significant step towards providing uninterrupted drinking water to residents. This initiative aims to cover approximately 550 connections, with a majority located in government quarters maintained by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

Modernizing Water Infrastructure to Minimize Losses and Improve Efficiency

As part of this ambitious project, NDMC is focused on minimizing water loss through a comprehensive strategy that includes identifying and plugging leaks, upgrading the distribution network, and optimizing supply management. A key technological feature is the installation of a SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system, which will enable real-time monitoring and control of the water supply network, enhancing operational transparency and accountability.

Key Features and Technological Upgrades Under the Pilot

NDMC Vice-Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal emphasized that this pilot aligns with the Prime Minister's Har Ghar Jal initiative, aimed at modernizing water supply systems. He detailed that modern VFD-based motor pump sets will be installed at the Vinay Marg boosting station, alongside IT-enabled instrumentation, automation systems, and data analytics to improve monitoring and efficiency. Essential electrical improvements will also be carried out in the existing pipeline network to support these upgrades.

Project Approval, Cost, and Future Expansion Plans

The project has been approved at an estimated cost of about Rs 1.4 crore and is scheduled for completion within five months. Based on recommendations from a previously appointed consultant, NDMC plans to begin the process of appointing another consultant next month to prepare a study and design for implementing 24x7 water supply across its entire jurisdiction, signaling a broader commitment to water infrastructure development.
