Gurgaon Sector 85 Road Opens, Easing Commute for 10,000 Families
In a significant development for urban infrastructure, more than 10,000 families residing in various housing societies in Sector 85, Gurgaon, along with a private school, have finally received relief with the inauguration of a 24-metre sector road. This new road connects the area directly to the Dwarka Expressway, addressing a long-standing connectivity issue that had plagued residents for nearly a decade.
Years of Congestion and Delays
For years, the absence of this crucial road forced thousands of residents to rely on narrow and congested internal routes for their daily commutes, leading to significant traffic bottlenecks and safety concerns. The road was originally slated for completion approximately seven to eight years ago, but persistent delays left the project in limbo until it was brought to the forefront during a district public grievance and redressal committee meeting. This meeting was chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, highlighting the government's commitment to resolving public infrastructure challenges.
Breakthrough Through Public-Private Collaboration
A major breakthrough in the project occurred when Godrej Properties stepped in to purchase a private land parcel that had been obstructing the road's continuity. Specifically, a house built on around 400 square yards was blocking the route, and its acquisition paved the way for the construction of the 24-metre road link, now open for public use. This collaboration between the government and private sector has been instrumental in overcoming the logistical hurdles that had stalled progress for so long.
With the road now operational, residents are set to benefit from direct access to the sector as originally envisioned, significantly reducing travel time and improving overall mobility. Minister for Industries and Commerce Rao Narbir Singh expressed his gratitude, stating, "I would like to thank all Haryana government officials and Godrej Properties for their promptness in resolving this issue. This long-pending access problem has finally been addressed."
Government's Focus on Urban Infrastructure
Singh further emphasized that the government is actively working to resolve similar issues related to 24-metre-wide roads in builder societies across Gurgaon. He noted that urban infrastructure is being strengthened in a planned manner, with top priority given to citizens' interests. "In whichever societies in Gurgaon district the problem of lack or obstruction of 24-metre roads arises, solutions will be ensured on a priority basis so that people can have better, safer, and smoother commuting facilities," he added.
During budget discussions, the government announced plans to acquire land for such roads, underscoring its dedication to enhancing connectivity and public welfare. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar highlighted that the connectivity issue was raised during a grievance committee meeting, prompting swift action to find a resolution.
Community Relief and Future Implications
The opening of the road has brought a sense of relief to residents and passersby alike. Wing Commander (Retd) RD Deshpande, secretary of Rise Always Welfare Society, remarked, "This has brought a sense of relief to residents and passersby. It is encouraging to see authorities listening to the community and taking action. The problem had persisted for a long time, and the difference will be tangible in the lives of around 10,000 people."
Godrej Properties CEO (north zone) Geetika Trehan also commented on the initiative, noting that the road significantly improves connectivity and enhances everyday safety and convenience for residents. "This government- and administration-led initiative addresses a long-standing access challenge in Sector 85. Godrej Properties is pleased to have supported its execution," Trehan said.
This development marks a positive step forward in Gurgaon's urban planning, demonstrating how collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors can effectively address infrastructure gaps and improve quality of life for thousands of citizens.
