Tamil Nadu Inaugurates Modern Bus Termini in Tiruttani and Tiruvallur
Tiruvallur District Collector M Prathap officially announced on Tuesday that new bus termini in the municipalities of Tiruttani and Tiruvallur will be opened today. These state-of-the-art facilities are designed to significantly alleviate traffic congestion and vastly improve commuter convenience across both towns.
Major Infrastructure Upgrade in Tiruttani
In Tiruttani, the existing Arignar Anna bus stand, which is currently situated in the congested town centre, will be permanently relocated to a newly constructed facility. This modern terminus has been built on the Tiruttani–Arakkonam Road at a substantial cost of ₹20.97 crore, funded entirely by the Tiruttani municipality. Effective immediately, all bus services to various destinations will operate exclusively from this new terminus, marking a complete shift from the old location.
New Transport Hub in Tiruvallur
Similarly, Tiruvallur municipality has completed construction of a new bus terminus on the Tiruvallur–Uthukkottai Road. This project represents a significant investment of ₹36 crore. It will replace the existing Thiru Vi Ka Bus Stand, which is also located in the town centre and contributes to local traffic bottlenecks. Town buses will now operate between this new terminus and the Tiruvallur railway station, facilitating better connectivity for daily commuters.
Operational Timeline and Benefits
From March 30 onwards, all bus services in both municipalities will function solely from these new facilities. This strategic move is expected to:
- Drastically reduce vehicular congestion in the town centres.
- Provide enhanced safety and comfort for passengers.
- Streamline public transport operations with modern amenities.
- Support urban development by decongesting core areas.
District Collector M Prathap emphasized that these infrastructural developments are part of broader efforts to upgrade public transportation systems in the region, ensuring they meet contemporary standards and cater to the growing needs of the population.
