Nashik: Following the disruption caused by the season's first rain, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has imposed a complete ban on road excavation across the city from June 4 to prevent accidents, waterlogging and further damage during the monsoon.
City engineer Sanjay Agrawal has directed all agencies to either complete ongoing digging works or halt them in their current state by the deadline. “Considering the monsoon, we have instructed all agencies to complete road digging works before June 4. No excavation will be permitted thereafter to avoid inconvenience to residents,” Agrawal said.
The decision comes amid concerns over potholes, cave-ins and safety risks from partially dug roads during heavy rainfall. Multiple departments, including public works, water supply, drainage and electrical, along with Smart City projects, are currently executing infrastructure works ahead of the upcoming Kumbh Mela. At the same time, agencies such as BSNL, MSEDCL, private telecom firms and MNGL are undertaking large-scale excavation for cables, pipelines and power lines.
Civic officials said restoration work becomes difficult during the monsoon, with dug-up stretches prone to water accumulation and collapse. As per the order, all dug-up roads must be restored to their original condition, and no fresh excavation permissions will be granted till October 15. Agencies will be held responsible for accidents caused by incomplete work.
MNGL has been specifically directed to clear construction debris from roads immediately. Officials warned that any violation of the ban will attract legal action, and the directive has been issued for strict implementation across all departments.
This proactive measure aims to ensure public safety and minimize monsoon-related hazards. The NMC urges all residents and agencies to cooperate and adhere to the guidelines to prevent mishaps during the rainy season.
