A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan was injured in an accidental firing incident at Jammu railway station on Thursday. The incident took place when the jawan's service rifle discharged inadvertently while he was on duty.
Details of the Incident
The jawan, identified as constable Rajesh Kumar, sustained a bullet injury to his leg. He was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu for treatment. Hospital sources confirmed that his condition is stable and he is out of danger.
According to CISF officials, the firing occurred around 10:30 AM when the jawan was performing security duties at the station. Preliminary investigations suggest that the weapon discharged accidentally due to a mechanical fault or mishandling. A detailed inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause.
Security Protocols Under Scrutiny
This incident has raised questions about the safety protocols and maintenance of weapons among security personnel deployed at railway stations. The CISF is responsible for the security of major railway stations across the country, including Jammu station, which is a sensitive location due to its proximity to the Line of Control.
Senior CISF officers have reached the spot to assess the situation and ensure that all necessary measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future. The injured jawan's family has been informed, and the force is providing all possible assistance.
Previous Incidents
Accidental firings involving security personnel are not uncommon. In recent years, there have been several cases where weapons discharged inadvertently, leading to injuries or fatalities. The CISF regularly conducts training programs to minimize such risks, but lapses sometimes occur.
Investigations are ongoing, and further updates are expected as the inquiry progresses. The railway station continued to function normally after the incident, with no disruption to train services.
