Bengaluru: Medical education minister Sharan Prakash Patil confirmed that there will be no fee hike for medical and dental seats in the state this year. Addressing a press conference on Friday, Patil stated, "Students are already under stress and anxiety due to the ongoing NEET controversy. We do not want to burden them any further. We categorically told the private college associations that there can be no hike this year."
Karnataka boasts the largest number of medical seats in the country, with 13,945 undergraduate and 7,727 postgraduate positions. Additionally, another 550 MBBS seats are expected to be added this year, further expanding access to medical education.
The decision comes as a relief to students and their families, who have been grappling with uncertainties surrounding the NEET examination. The minister's assurance aims to alleviate financial pressures and ensure that aspiring medical professionals can pursue their studies without additional monetary strain.
Private college associations have been instructed to comply with the directive, and any violations will be met with strict action. The state government remains committed to providing affordable and quality medical education to all students.
