Noida Power Infrastructure Modernization Gains Momentum with New Substation and Network Upgrades
In a significant move to modernize the power infrastructure in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, work has officially commenced on a new 33/11 kV substation in Badalpur, Greater Noida. This project, coupled with comprehensive upgrades to the existing 11 kV network, is poised to substantially improve electricity supply for more than 10,000 consumers, particularly addressing the heightened demand during peak summer months.
Enhancing Capacity with Transformer Augmentations
To bolster the load capacity and strengthen distribution systems, authorities have augmented two existing substations in Sectors 38 and 16 with additional 10 MVA transformers. Officials emphasize that these enhancements are critical for reducing the risk of outages and ensuring a more stable power supply across the region.
Advanced RMUs Under RDSS Scheme
Under the central government's Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) is commissioning state-of-the-art 3-way Ring Main Units (RMUs) in Sector 22 and the Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ). These compact switchgear systems facilitate a looped network, enabling quicker fault isolation and significantly faster restoration of supply following disruptions.
"The introduction of RMUs will dramatically improve the reliability of the 11 kV network and ensure faster restoration during outages," stated Vivek Kumar Patel, Superintending Engineer at PVVNL, Noida. This technological upgrade is expected to minimize downtime and enhance operational efficiency.
Future-Proofing with New Power Transformer
In a parallel development, a new power transformer has been installed in Sector 38 to further boost capacity and cater to future demand projections. Authorities confirm that all projects are being executed within stipulated timelines while adhering to stringent quality standards, underscoring a commitment to robust infrastructure development.
Resident Skepticism Amid Persistent Issues
Despite these advancements, residents remain skeptical, citing ongoing issues with persistent outages. "Even light rain or overgrown trees brushing overhead cables lead to frequent faults," remarked Anil Kumar, a resident of Sector 56. This feedback highlights the challenges that persist in the distribution network, even as systemic improvements are underway.
The comprehensive modernization efforts, including the new substation, RMUs, and transformer upgrades, represent a multi-faceted approach to addressing Noida's power supply challenges. While authorities project enhanced reliability and capacity, resident experiences will ultimately determine the success of these initiatives in mitigating long-standing outage concerns.
