Noida Power Department Accelerates Infrastructure Upgrades for Summer
In a strategic move to fortify power supply ahead of the peak summer season, the Noida power department has ramped up infrastructure enhancements under the RDSS and SCADA modernisation schemes. This initiative aims to ensure reliable electricity distribution during high-demand months, addressing the needs of a growing urban population.
Key Upgrades in Sectors 79 and 80
As part of this drive, significant improvements have been made to the 33/11 kV substations located in Sectors 79 and 80. On Friday, two transformers, each with a capacity of 10 MVA, were installed—one in each sector. Over the weekend, rigorous trials and testing were successfully conducted, rendering these substations fully operational. This upgrade is projected to benefit over 20,000 consumers in these sectors and surrounding areas, providing a more stable and efficient power supply.
Vivek Kumar Patel, superintending engineer at PVVNL’s Noida power department, emphasized the importance of this enhancement. He stated, "The substations are now better equipped to handle summer load, ensuring smoother distribution during periods of high electricity consumption." This proactive measure is expected to mitigate potential outages and voltage fluctuations that often accompany seasonal spikes in demand.
Broader Modernisation Plan for Noida
The developments in Sectors 79 and 80 are just one component of a comprehensive plan to modernise Noida's entire power network. According to officials, this multi-year initiative is scheduled to continue until 2027, with the overarching goal of delivering reliable and efficient power supply across the city.
Key elements of this broader strategy include:
- Nine new 33/11 kV substations set to become operational within the next six months.
- Capacity enhancement currently underway for 10 existing substations.
- Construction of new substations in sectors such as 63, 65, 32, and 144.
- Installation of 12 additional transformers, each with a capacity of 10 MVA.
- Work on 556 distribution transformers of 250 kVA across multiple sectors to further bolster the distribution network.
Sanjay Kumar Jain, chief engineer, highlighted the long-term vision of this project. He noted that these efforts are part of a sustained commitment to upgrade infrastructure, ensuring that Noida's power grid can meet future demands and support the city's continued growth and development.
Impact on Consumers and Future Outlook
The immediate impact of these upgrades is a more robust power supply for residents and businesses in Noida, particularly as temperatures rise. By enhancing transformer capacity and expanding substation networks, the power department aims to reduce downtime and improve service quality. This initiative not only addresses current needs but also lays the groundwork for a more resilient energy system capable of supporting urban expansion.
As summer approaches, these infrastructure improvements are timely, offering reassurance to consumers who rely on consistent electricity for daily activities and economic operations. The ongoing projects underscore the department's focus on proactive planning and investment in critical utilities.
