In a significant digital push, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has reported a massive response to its newly launched online services. Within just two months of introduction, a staggering 58,167 consumers across the state have applied digitally to change the name on their electricity connections.
Automated Approvals for Ease of Living
As part of its ease of living initiative, MSEDCL has automated the approval process for name change requests on power connections. This move aims to benefit consumers who need to update ownership details after property transactions, inheritance, or other transfers. The primary objective is to minimize the need for physical visits to utility offices by expanding the range of services available online.
Consumers can now submit their applications by logging into the official MSEDCL website or through its dedicated mobile application. The process requires applicants to select the reason for the name change and upload the necessary supporting documents digitally. Once submitted, the request is processed and the name change is typically completed within three to seven days.
Surge in Online Load Enhancement Requests
In a parallel development, MSEDCL has also enabled automated approvals for online applications seeking an increase in sanctioned electricity load. This facility is available for loads up to 157kW and covers low-tension industrial, commercial, residential, and other consumer categories.
The utility's data reveals that 10,428 consumers have already benefited from this online load enhancement facility. Collectively, these approvals have led to an increase of 69.37 megawatts (mW) in the total sanctioned load across the state. The option to request a load change (increase or decrease) is also accessible via the website and mobile app.
How the Automated Processes Work
The automated systems are designed for speed and convenience. For load enhancement requests, consumers receive an automated quotation immediately after submitting their online application. If the upgrade does not require a new meter or any infrastructure changes, the enhanced load is approved automatically and activated within 24 hours.
In cases where a new meter is needed or a conversion from single-phase to three-phase supply is necessary, the system automatically issues installation orders. MSEDCL states that this process is generally completed within 48 hours, ensuring a swift resolution for consumers.
This digital transformation by Maharashtra's primary power distributor marks a substantial shift towards consumer-centric services, leveraging technology to simplify bureaucratic procedures and save valuable time for lakhs of electricity users.
