Patna District Magistrate Inaugurates Self-Enumeration for Census 2027
Patna's principal census officer and district magistrate, Thiyagarajan S M, officially launched the self-enumeration phase of the Census of India 2027 on Friday by personally recording his data on the online portal. This initiative marks a significant step in the nationwide census process, which involves key officials such as the deputy development commissioner, district public relations officer, district planning officer, and district statistical officer to ensure smooth execution.
Key Deadlines and Phases for Census Data Collection
Citizens in Patna can access the self-enumeration portal to submit their personal information until May 1, 2026. Following this, the house listing and housing census phase will be conducted from May 2 to May 31, 2026, focusing on detailed residential data collection across the district. Currently, personnel at the collectorate are actively using the web portal to submit their information, setting an example for public participation.
Training and Infrastructure for Census Personnel
The district administration has organized comprehensive training sessions for enumerators and supervisors across all blocks and urban bodies. These sessions cover essential aspects such as door-to-door data collection, accurate form filling, and efficient data entry using digital devices. Officials have been strictly directed to maintain confidentiality and adhere to guidelines issued by the office of the registrar general and census commissioner under the ministry of home affairs.
Digital Tools and Manpower Deployment
For the first time, the census will utilize a mobile application for digital data collection on smartphones, enhancing efficiency and accuracy. Patna has deployed a robust team including 46 in-charge census officers, 12,071 enumerators, 2,031 supervisors, and 222 field trainers to manage the extensive exercise. District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M is overseeing 40 officials covering 23 blocks, 11 municipal councils, five nagar panchayats, and the Danapur Cantonment Board, while Patna municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena manages six urban zone charges covering 75 wards.
Monitoring and Policy Implications
A 13-member district-level census coordination committee and a dedicated census cell are closely monitoring the exercise to ensure timely completion and data integrity. The data collected during this census will be crucial for government policy formulation and development planning, providing insights for future initiatives aimed at improving public services and infrastructure in Patna and beyond.
