The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner, Yashpal Meena, has set May 30 as the final deadline for the completion of all road restoration and pipeline-related works within the municipal area. This directive was issued during a review meeting held on Thursday.
Two-Shift Operations and Strict Oversight
Commissioner Meena instructed engineers to camp at project sites and operate in two shifts to ensure timely completion. He emphasized that no new project should be initiated if it cannot be finished by the specified deadline. Additionally, all excavated stretches must be immediately refilled and restored, with proper barricading and display boards installed at every site.
Warning of Legal Action
The commissioner warned that an FIR would be lodged against contractors and engineers if negligence leads to loss of life or property during the monsoon season. This stern warning underscores the urgency of completing the works before the rains arrive.
Quality Inspections and Interdepartmental Coordination
Meena stated that the Road Construction Department will carry out quality inspections of road works, while the Public Health Engineering Department will review water supply and pipeline projects. Officials have been instructed to formally request these departments to begin their checks.
Disciplinary Actions Against Delays
In response to project delays, Meena issued notices to an executive engineer, an assistant engineer, and six junior engineers. Their salaries have been withheld until further notice as a disciplinary measure.
Project Status Overview
According to PMC data, in the water supply division, 60 out of 120 projects are currently underway. Twenty-eight projects have been completed, 10 are at the work order stage, 18 are at the letter of acceptance stage, and one is under agreement.
