Patna removes encroachments, collects Rs 37,400 in fines

The Patna administration launched a comprehensive anti-encroachment operation across multiple urban zones on Tuesday, acting on directives from District Magistrate Thyagarajan S M. The drive resulted in substantial penalties, confiscation of goods, and identification of repeat offenders who had illegally occupied public spaces.

Major Zones Targeted in Cleanup Operation

According to official reports from the district control room, the administration successfully cleared four major zones and collected total fines amounting to Rs 37,400. The coordinated effort involved multiple teams working simultaneously across different parts of the city to remove unauthorized structures and materials obstructing public pathways and roads.

New Capital Zone: From Station Golambar to CDA Bhawan

In the New Capital zone, officials focused on the area stretching from Station Golambar to the CDA Bhawan located beneath the Chiraiyatand bridge. The operation led to the removal of numerous temporary structures that had been illegally erected. Authorities confiscated three pushcarts, one small LED television, and three cameras during this phase of the drive.

Patliputra Zone: Boring Road Chauraha to Mandiri

The Patliputra zone operation specifically targeted temporary roadside encroachments, including various fruit shops that had sprung up along the crucial stretch from Boring Road Chauraha to Mandiri. This action resulted in the seizure of two flex boards and one four-wheeled cart, with officials collecting Rs 8,000 in penalties from violators.

Azimabad Zone: Zero Mile to Bairiya Bus Stand

Officers working in the Azimabad Zone concentrated on clearing construction materials that had been dumped along roadsides between Zero Mile and Bairiya bus stand. The removed materials included sand and bricks that were obstructing traffic flow. This segment of the operation saw the confiscation of seven pushcarts and 50 bricks, generating Rs 20,300 in fines - the highest amount collected from any single zone.

Phulwarisharif Nagar Parishad: Khoja Imli to Bhagat Singh Chowk

The Phulwarisharif Nagar Parishad area witnessed the removal of both temporary and permanent drain structures between Khoja Imli and Bhagat Singh Chowk. This cleanup effort resulted in the elimination of 30 illegal banners and posters, along with one pushcart, bamboo materials, and various road debris. The penalties collected here totaled Rs 9,100.

Administration's Stance on Regular Enforcement

District Magistrate Thyagarajan emphasized that encroachment removal represents a regular activity essential for protecting public interest. He issued clear directions to urban management officials to ensure the effectiveness of these drives and maintain active follow-up teams to prevent the reemergence of illegal structures.

The DM specifically highlighted that preventing encroachment falls under the personal responsibility of station house officers, whose teams must remain present during all such operations. He pointed out that encroachments on what he described as "city lifelines" including Nehru Path and Ashok Rajpath create significant traffic obstructions and generate considerable hardship for the general public.

The administration's firm stance indicates that similar anti-encroachment drives will continue as part of ongoing efforts to maintain urban order and ensure the smooth flow of traffic throughout Patna's key transportation corridors.
