Patna: Municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena on Tuesday directed officials and contractors to complete all localized road patchwork by May 31 and major road construction and restoration projects by June 10, ahead of the monsoon season. Reviewing ongoing projects at the municipal corporation headquarters, Meena also instructed officials to finish all ongoing water supply projects by May 31, while works yet to begin must start immediately and be completed by June 15.
Fortnightly Reviews and Resident Concerns
The civic body has initiated fortnightly reviews to monitor progress and coordinate infrastructure work before the rainy season. Officials and contractors reported that residents in some wards are opposing simultaneous road construction works. In response, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) granted a 10-day extension for several major projects to maintain quality standards. Meena asked executive engineers and circle officers to engage with residents and explain the necessity of parallel works to prevent monsoon-related waterlogging.
Progress Reports
According to progress reports, the Patliputra division has restored 12.90 km out of its 32.21 km target, while the New Capital Circle completed 10.36 km of 21.20 km. The Kankarbagh division finished 10.87 km of 19.56 km, and Patna City completed 3.80 km of its 9.30 km target.
Water Supply and Boring Projects
Officials stated that 760 pipeline projects have been approved across the city, of which 348 are completed and work is underway on 28 projects. Out of 266 boring installation projects, 182 have been completed. To avoid duplication with agencies such as the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation and the road construction department, overlapping works have been de-scoped.
Quality Assurance
Meena also ordered geo-tagging of all municipal road works and directed city engineer Bindu Rajak to conduct quality audits of completed roads.
