Patna Smart City to Introduce Digital Booking for New Crematorium
Patna Smart City Limited (PSCL) is set to revolutionize the cremation process at the upcoming Bans Ghat facility with a comprehensive online booking system. According to a senior PSCL official who spoke on condition of anonymity, the digital infrastructure will include a WhatsApp chatbot, a 24-hour helpline, an online portal, and a dedicated mobile application. These platforms are currently in development and will be made available to the public upon the official inauguration of the crematorium.
Construction Nears Completion with Inauguration Expected Soon
The official revealed that at least 95% of the construction and technical work has been completed, with the current timeline targeting an inauguration within the next month. The primary motivation behind digitizing the booking process is to simplify procedures for the public during times of grief and high stress, ensuring a more efficient and transparent system.
Features of the Digital Booking System
The WhatsApp chatbot service, facilitated by the Patna Municipal Corporation, will integrate the cremation slot booking option into its existing menu of municipal services. Additionally, a dedicated 24-hour helpline will be established to record service requests and provide registration assistance through an on-site help desk, catering to those who may face difficulties using digital tools.
The online portal will require users to log in via their mobile number and a one-time password (OTP) to enter necessary details. Users will have the ability to select the type of cremation and choose specific time slots. The system is designed to integrate bookings for various services, including:
- Hearse vans
- Firewood
- Priest services
- Ritual materials
Payments for these services will be processed through online gateways and Unified Payments Interface (UPI), offering a seamless transaction experience.
Post-Booking and Future Plans
Upon completion of a booking, the system will send a confirmation via SMS to the user. Following the final rites, there are plans for the platform to generate digital death certificates, further streamlining administrative processes. This transition to a digital system aims to eliminate physical queues and enhance transparency in the management of the Bans Ghat crematorium facility.
