PM Modi Directs Cabinet Ministers to Detail Reform Initiatives for Coming Months
In a significant move to accelerate governance reforms, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday instructed his cabinet colleagues to prepare comprehensive lists of reforms their ministries plan to implement over the next few months. The Prime Minister also asked for details of changes already introduced, as part of a broader push to enhance administrative efficiency.
Focus on Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business
During the first Cabinet meeting held at Seva Teerth, PM Modi emphasized that all proposed reforms should center around two key themes: ease of living and ease of doing business. This directive aims to ensure that policy changes directly benefit common citizens and streamline processes for businesses and stakeholders.
According to sources, the Prime Minister made these suggestions while chairing the meeting, where a resolution was adopted declaring that every decision made at Seva Teerth will be inspired by the sentiment of 'Nagrik Devo Bhava' (Citizen is God). The resolution stated that the premises will serve as a center for empowering every Indian, rather than a place for displaying power.
Railway Ministry Leads with 52 Reforms in 52 Weeks
Already, the railway ministry has announced an ambitious plan to undertake 52 reforms in 52 weeks, with some initiatives already rolled out. Several other ministries are in the process of finalizing 'non-financial regulatory reforms' that can be implemented without requiring changes to existing laws.
Officials familiar with the PM's directive revealed that shortly after the Cabinet meeting, some ministers immediately tasked their staff with identifying areas where additional reforms could be introduced to benefit the public and other stakeholders.
Continuation of Reform Momentum
An official noted, "The focus will continue to be on reforms in every field. Earlier, PM had asked some ministries to propose modifications in rules, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate traces of colonialism." This indicates a sustained effort to modernize governance structures and remove outdated colonial-era practices.
Seva Sankalp Resolution Emphasizes Service and Transparency
During the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw read out the 'Seva Sankalp Resolution', which highlighted that every decision made in the new building will be driven by a spirit of service toward India's 1.4 billion citizens and aligned with the broader goal of nation-building.
The resolution stated, "We reaffirm that, in line with our vision, we will further strengthen the governance model that is transparent, aware, and sensitive to the emotions of citizens." It further emphasized that the work culture at Seva Teerth will be guided by the fundamental ethos of the Constitution, with accountability woven into every decision to meet public aspirations.
This initiative underscores the government's commitment to a proactive and citizen-centric approach to governance, aiming to foster an environment where reforms are continuously identified and implemented to improve quality of life and economic opportunities.
