PM Modi Inaugurates Five New Amrit Bharat Express Trains

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched five new Amrit Bharat Express trains on Sunday, January 18, 2026. The flag-off ceremonies took place during the Prime Minister's visits to Assam and West Bengal, marking a significant expansion of India's railway network.

Modern Features of Amrit Bharat Express

The Amrit Bharat Express represents a new generation of non-AC trains equipped with contemporary passenger amenities. These trains utilize modern LHB rake technology combined with advanced push-pull systems. This innovative technology delivers improved operational efficiency and smoother rides for travelers.

Passengers will enjoy several upgraded facilities including:

  • Ergonomically designed berths for better comfort
  • Modular toilet systems
  • Energy-efficient LED lighting throughout coaches
  • CCTV surveillance for enhanced security
  • Mobile charging facilities at every seat

Routes and Connectivity Benefits

From Assam's Kaliabor station, Prime Minister Modi flagged off two important train services. The Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Rohtak Amrit Bharat Express will connect multiple districts across Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. This route specifically serves areas like Kamrup, Barpeta, Cooch Behar, Bhagalpur, Varanasi, and Rohtak.

The second train from Assam is the Dibrugarh-Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) Amrit Bharat Express. This service will benefit districts in Nagaland, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, including Dimapur, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Alipurduar, Katihar, Gorakhpur, and Lucknow.

West Bengal Launches Three Additional Services

During his West Bengal visit, the Prime Minister inaugurated three more Amrit Bharat Express trains. The Kolkata (Howrah)-Anand Vihar Terminal service will connect districts in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi's East Delhi region.

The Kolkata (Sealdah)-Banaras Amrit Bharat Express will serve districts in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. This improved connectivity will facilitate easier access to major cities, administrative centers, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions for residents along the route.

The final train launched from West Bengal is the Kolkata (Santragachi)-Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express. This extensive route will benefit districts across West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, connecting areas like Howrah, Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, and Chennai.

Enhanced Regional Connectivity

These five new train services significantly expand railway connectivity across multiple Indian states. The Amrit Bharat Express trains are designed to provide comfortable, modern travel options for passengers while connecting previously underserved regions. The push-pull technology ensures these trains can maintain better speeds and offer smoother operations compared to conventional trains.

The railway ministry's initiative focuses on improving inter-state connectivity and making train travel more accessible to citizens across the country. These new routes will particularly benefit districts that previously had limited direct rail connections to major urban centers.
