PM Modi Unveils Rs 4,000 Crore Projects in Sikkim

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday unveiled a series of development projects worth over Rs 4,000 crore in Sikkim, aimed at boosting infrastructure, connectivity, and tourism in the northeastern state. The projects include road widening, bridge construction, and tourism facilities.

Key Projects Announced

The prime minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple projects across Sikkim. These include the widening of the 40-km Melli-Singhik road, construction of a new bridge over the Teesta River, and development of tourist amenities at several locations. The projects are expected to generate employment and improve access to remote areas.

Focus on Connectivity

Emphasizing the importance of connectivity, Modi stated that improved roads and bridges would not only facilitate movement of people and goods but also enhance disaster response capabilities. The Melli-Singhik road project, costing Rs 1,200 crore, is a key component of the plan.

Tourism Boost

Tourism infrastructure projects include the development of eco-tourism sites, viewpoints, and trekking trails. These aim to attract more visitors to Sikkim, known for its natural beauty and biodiversity. The projects are part of the central government's 'Act East' policy to develop the Northeast region.

During the event, Modi also highlighted the government's commitment to sustainable development and preserving Sikkim's ecological heritage. He praised the state's achievements in organic farming and environmental conservation.

The projects are funded under various central schemes, including the Bharatmala Pariyojana and the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS). The state government will oversee implementation, with completion targeted within three to five years.
