The Public Works Department (PWD) is undertaking the reconstruction of a Portuguese-era culvert near the Ponda bus stand at a cost of Rs 70 lakh. The work is expected to be completed before the onset of the monsoon season, ensuring that the area remains flood-free.
Project Details
According to officials, the Water Resources Department (WRD) has already reconstructed the nullah, while the culvert reconstruction was pending. The PWD has now taken up this task to address waterlogging issues in the region.
Completion Deadline
Devendra Velingkar, Executive Engineer of PWD’s road division, confirmed that the culvert work is slated to be finished by May 31. He added that once completed, the culvert will effectively prevent flooding in the area during the monsoon.
This reconstruction is part of ongoing efforts to improve drainage infrastructure in Ponda, a town in Goa that experiences heavy rainfall during the monsoon. The project aims to provide long-term relief to commuters and residents who have faced waterlogging problems for years.
