Activists of the Youth Organisation for Development and Health Affairs (YODHA Group) staged a protest march in Rohtak on Monday against the compulsory use of books published by private publishers in several prominent private schools in the city. The protesters submitted a memorandum to the City Magistrate, demanding the formation of a committee to investigate the matter.
Demand for Inquiry Committee
The protesters argued that schools cannot force students to study books from private publishers. They called for a fair inquiry into the practice. Yudhvir Singh, president of YODHA Group, stated that the administration has assured them that a committee has been constituted to conduct an impartial investigation. Two representatives of the YODHA Group will be included in the committee to ensure transparency and fairness.
Objective of the Protest
Singh emphasized that the group's objective is to safeguard the interests of students and promote transparency in educational materials. The protest highlights concerns over the financial burden on parents and the lack of choice in textbook selection.
The development comes amid growing scrutiny of private schools' practices regarding prescribed textbooks. The committee's formation is expected to address these issues and provide recommendations.
