Pune Municipal Corporation Accelerates Critical Infrastructure Projects to Alleviate Traffic Woes
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has placed two vital infrastructure developments on an expedited timeline to combat persistent traffic congestion in the Koregaon Park and Kalyaninagar neighborhoods. These initiatives include the widening of the road segment from Koregaon Park chowk to Tadigutta chowk and the construction of a new bridge parallel to the existing Aga Khan bridge over the Mula-Mutha river.
New River Bridge and Road Widening on Fast Track
According to civic officials, the new river bridge, which will run adjacent to the current Aga Khan bridge connecting the two areas, is anticipated to be operational by the end of May. Simultaneously, a substantial portion of the ongoing road widening effort is scheduled for completion before the onset of the monsoon season.
PMC is conducting weekly reviews of both projects to prevent unnecessary delays, as confirmed by an official. The administration is actively engaging with establishments along the Tadigutta chowk road to secure cooperation for the widening work. Approximately 400 meters of the road have already been widened, with plans to provide at least one additional lane upon project finalization.
Land Acquisition and Future Expansion Plans
The civic body is also in discussions with defense authorities to acquire additional land, aiming to incorporate another lane into the existing road, which currently proves inadequate for handling the traffic volume. Furthermore, PMC is formulating a strategy to widen four to five road links leading toward Hadapsar railway station, situated beyond Tadigutta chowk.
Dedicated teams have been deployed to negotiate with landowners to obtain the necessary land for these roadworks, officials stated. This comprehensive approach underscores PMC's commitment to enhancing urban mobility and reducing congestion in these densely populated zones.
The accelerated execution of these infrastructure projects is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and provide much-needed relief to residents and commuters in Koregaon Park and Kalyaninagar, marking a pivotal step in Pune's urban development efforts.
