Pune Metro Announces Dedicated Seating for Women and Senior Citizens
In a significant move to enhance commuter comfort and safety, the Pune Metro system will implement a new seating reservation policy across both of its operational routes starting this Sunday. The initiative, which coincides with the celebration of International Women's Day on March 8, aims to provide prioritized seating for women and senior citizens during their daily travels.
Seat Allocation Details and Implementation
Under this new policy, each Metro rake will feature a total of 54 reserved seats specifically allocated for these groups. Out of these, 46 seats will be exclusively reserved for women, while the remaining 8 seats will be designated for senior citizens. This structured allocation ensures that vulnerable commuters have guaranteed seating options, promoting a more inclusive and respectful travel environment.
The Maharashtra Metro (Maha Metro) administration has emphasized that detailed seating layouts, including clear drawings and signages, will be prominently displayed inside all Metro coaches. Additionally, these visual aids will be available at various stations and through the official cellphone application, making it easy for passengers to identify the reserved seats. Officials have urged commuters to pay attention to these signages to avoid any confusion and to respect the designated areas.
Official Appeal for Passenger Cooperation
Maha Metro officials have made a heartfelt appeal to all passengers, requesting their cooperation in adhering to this new seating arrangement. By respecting the reserved seats, commuters can contribute to a safer and more comfortable travel experience for everyone, particularly for women and elderly individuals who may require additional support during their journeys.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Metro administration to foster a culture of empathy and consideration among passengers. It aligns with global best practices in public transportation, where reserved seating for specific groups is common to ensure equitable access and comfort.
The launch on International Women's Day adds a symbolic layer to the policy, highlighting the Metro's commitment to gender inclusivity and social welfare. As Pune continues to expand its urban infrastructure, such measures are crucial in building a transportation system that caters to the diverse needs of its growing population.
