In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to government officials and citizens to conserve fuel amid the escalating West Asia crisis, two senior officers in Maharashtra's Raigad district have adopted a greener commute. Anchal Dalal, the Superintendent of Police of Raigad district, and Sachin Khade, the tehsildar of Mhasala taluka, have started riding bicycles to their offices instead of using government vehicles, without any security convoy, from Tuesday onwards.
Setting an Example
Raigad SP Anchal Dalal stated, 'After PM Narendra Modi's appeal to save fuel, among other austerity measures, since Tuesday, I ride on my bicycle from home to reach my Alibaug headquarters office, instead of the government vehicle. Change starts with oneself, and it will encourage citizens to respond positively to the PM's appeal.' She further explained that although the distance from her residence to the office is only about 700 meters, cycling instead of using a government vehicle for such a short distance will save fuel over the month.
Public and Social Media Praise
The sight of SP Anchal Dalal cycling to her office without a security convoy drew praise on social media. One comment read, 'A truly fit and hit officer. Behind this initiative of SP Anchal Dalal is not only the idea of saving fuel, but also the message of a healthy lifestyle. While it is difficult to find time for exercise in a hectic life, she has indirectly shown that cycling is an effective option.' Another message highlighted, 'SP Anchal Dalal's decision is considered more important in the backdrop of increasing pollution, traffic problems, and fuel price hike. This different picture of simplicity and social responsibility in administration is indeed an encouragement for the citizens. SP Anchal Dalal has shown through her actions that a bigger message can be given through the bell of a bicycle than the sound of a siren.'
The initiative aligns with the government's call for austerity and environmental consciousness. Citizens have lauded the officers for leading by example, emphasizing that small steps can inspire larger change.
