Railway Ministry approves 4,098 technical staff recruitment

The Railway Ministry has approved the recruitment of 4,098 technical staff across various departments to strengthen safety measures in Indian Railways. This initiative comes shortly after the ministry issued a notification for 6,565 technician posts, which included 323 positions for Signal Technician Grade I and 6,242 for Technician Grade III.

Details of the Recruitment Drive

The newly approved positions are expected to fill critical gaps in maintenance and operations, particularly in signaling and track maintenance, which are vital for preventing accidents. According to a ministry official, the recruitment aims to address the shortage of skilled personnel and improve the overall safety standards of the railway network.

Previous Recruitment Notification

Last month, the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) had advertised 6,565 technician vacancies, with the majority being for Technician Grade III. These posts require candidates with a diploma in engineering or equivalent qualifications. The selection process includes a computer-based test and a skill test.

Impact on Safety and Operations

Experts believe that the induction of additional technical staff will help in the timely maintenance of tracks, signals, and rolling stock, reducing the risk of derailments and signal failures. The ministry has emphasized that safety remains the top priority, and these recruitments are part of a broader strategy to modernize the railways.

“The recruitment of 4,098 technical staff is a significant step towards enhancing safety and efficiency. It will also create employment opportunities for youth,” said a Railway Ministry spokesperson.

Future Plans

The Indian Railways plans to fill more vacancies in the coming months, focusing on safety-critical roles. The total number of vacancies under various categories is expected to exceed 10,000 by the end of the fiscal year.
