Ranchi: The Ranchi administration is organizing special camps over this weekend to enhance mapping ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. The mapping of voters during the SIR exercise conducted in 2003 was inadequate in various parts of the state capital until June 5, with the figure reaching only 48%.
Following a special drive on June 6 and 7, the mapping figure has barely crossed the 50% mark. According to both the district administration and Election Commission officials, this is far below the saturation level of over 78% observed across the state. Consequently, the district administration is once again arranging a special voter mapping camp on Saturday and Sunday.
“The special drive for mapping voters is ongoing in areas where the figures have not yet reached the saturation level,” said state chief electoral officer (CEO), K Ravi Kumar, on Saturday. “It is the general apathy of urban voters towards electoral processes,” added deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri on Saturday.
The list of unmapped voters in the state was published on May 23, and according to the EC, they can get themselves mapped until June 15. A total of 14,03,354 voters have been mapped across the state as of June 11.
Special Camps to Boost Voter Mapping
The Ranchi administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure maximum voter mapping before the deadline. The special camps will be held on Saturday and Sunday, targeting areas with low mapping percentages. Officials urge all eligible voters to participate and get themselves mapped.
Current Status of Voter Mapping
As of June 11, over 14 lakh voters have been mapped in the state. However, the capital city lags behind with only around 50% mapping. The administration aims to achieve at least 78% mapping to match the state average.
Voters can check their names in the electoral roll and get mapped at the special camps. The deadline for mapping is June 15.
