Ranchi Anti-Narcotics Drive at Panchayat Level

The district administration in Ranchi, in collaboration with mukhiyas, pradhans, and social workers, will soon launch an anti-narcotics drive at the panchayat level to curb opium cultivation. This initiative was announced following a meeting of the district NCORD Committee (Narcotics Control Coordination) chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Manjunath Bhajantri on Thursday.

Strict Action Against Narcotics

DC Bhajantri directed officials to take stringent measures against the smuggling, production, and misuse of narcotic substances. Discussions focused on formulating and strictly implementing a coordinated strategy to address the issue. He emphasized identifying drug hotspots across all police station areas and intensifying special surveillance in those regions. “Expedite the process of seizing assets of drug smugglers and completely dismantle their networks,” Bhajantri stated.

Inspection and Ban on Prohibited Drugs

The DC stressed the need to inspect medical shops, pharmacies, chemical outlets, and pharmaceutical stores, enforcing a complete ban on the sale of prohibited drugs. He also directed strengthening check-posts in border areas and along transportation routes. “Establish coordination with neighbouring districts to curb inter-state drug trafficking,” he added.

Surveillance on Opium Cultivation

Officials were instructed to identify individuals involved in opium cultivation and keep them under surveillance to prevent them from reverting to opium farming. Strict vigilance should be maintained on those selling drugs, with stringent action taken against them.

Collective Responsibility for Drug-Free Ranchi

DC Bhajantri remarked, “Protecting our future generation from the menace of narcotics is a collective responsibility that rests upon all of us. The administration, the police, and all departments concerned will work in complete coordination to achieve the goal of making Ranchi a drug-free district.” He appealed to citizens to immediately inform the district control room, police control room, or local police station about any information regarding drug trafficking, sale, or misuse. Information can also be provided anonymously via the Narcotics Prohibition Information Centre toll-free number, 1933.

Action Against Illegal De-Addiction Centres

Officials were also directed to take action against de-addiction centres operating illegally in the district. The campaign will be implemented with support from the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society.
