Ranchi Municipal Corporation Directs Agencies to Tackle Water Scarcity Crisis

In response to escalating concerns over water scarcity, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has issued a directive on Monday, mandating multiple agencies to implement immediate corrective actions. These measures include repairing leakages, fixing defunct infrastructure, and ensuring tanker supply across all wards to alleviate the pressing water shortage.

High-Level Meeting Addresses Ground-Level Issues

The directives were formulated during a crucial meeting chaired by Mayor Roshni Khalkho. The session included officials from the municipal water supply branch, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), and the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO). Ward councillors also participated, highlighting specific ground-level problems from their respective areas to ensure a comprehensive approach.

An official statement from the meeting emphasized: "All departments have been instructed to work in close coordination with ward councillors and resolve public grievances related to water supply without any delay."

Mayor Khalkho Stresses Priority Action

Mayor Roshni Khalkho underscored the urgency of the situation, stating that complaints raised by councillors must be addressed on a priority basis. "All officials must take immediate steps to resolve issues faced by residents and ensure that no ward suffers due to lapses in coordination," she asserted, reinforcing the need for swift and effective intervention.

Key Measures to Combat Water Shortages

The civic body has outlined several critical actions to be undertaken urgently:

  • Repair of leaking pipelines to prevent water wastage.
  • Restoration of defunct HYDT systems and hand pumps to enhance water accessibility.
  • Cleaning of clogged drains that impede water flow and storage capacity.
  • Supply of drinking water through tankers in areas experiencing acute shortages.

Officials explained that the primary focus is on preventing further deterioration of water supply during the peak summer months. This involves plugging leakages and restoring non-functional assets to meet the heightened demand.

Accountability and Time-Bound Implementation

Departments have been tasked with fixing accountability to ensure that actions are taken promptly and efficiently. They are required to adhere to time-bound schedules for addressing complaints received from various wards, aiming to streamline the response process.

Mayor Khalkho added, "The objective is to provide relief to residents facing water-related issues and maintain equitable distribution across the city." This initiative seeks to foster a more reliable and fair water supply system for all citizens of Ranchi.
