The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has achieved a significant milestone by collecting Rs 153 crore in advance property and water taxes for the financial year 2026-27 within just 40 days. As of May 18, a total of 2.43 lakh taxpayers have cleared their dues since the tax collection drive commenced on April 7. This amount is a substantial portion of the Rs 448 crore total tax collected by the RMC in the last financial year.
Digital payments dominate tax collection
Digital transactions have played a major role in this year's tax collection. A total of 1.86 lakh citizens opted to pay online, contributing Rs 111.21 crore to the civic coffers. In contrast, 57,731 taxpayers used traditional methods, paying Rs 42 crore via cheque and cash. To encourage early payments, the RMC has already distributed Rs 18.30 crore in advance tax discounts to eligible citizens.
Year-on-year growth in advance collection
This year's advance collection of Rs 152.96 crore marks a steady increase from the previous year's Rs 148 crore for the corresponding period. The collection across the city's zones highlights growth in all areas. The west zone recorded the highest collection of Rs 72 crore, followed by the central zone with Rs 48 crore and the east zone with Rs 32 crore.
Discount schemes and deadlines
The tax recovery branch has urged all property owners within municipal limits to take advantage of the ongoing rebate schemes before the deadlines expire. Taxpayers have until May 31 to claim a 10% discount for general taxpayers and a 15% discount for women property owners. For those paying between June 1 and June 30, 2026, the discount rates will be adjusted to 5% for general taxpayers and 10% for women property owners.
