RMC fines water bottling plant Rs 50,000 for no permits

The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Friday imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on a water bottling plant located in the Kishoreganj area of the city. The facility was also shut down for allegedly operating without obtaining the necessary permits from the civic body.

Crackdown on Unauthorised Water Usage

A team from the corporation's water supply wing has been conducting inspection drives across the city to check for groundwater exploitation and unauthorised water usage. During one such drive, the bottling plant was found to be violating the rules.

RMC Commissioner Sushant Gaurav clarified that the campaign against unauthorised water connections, illegal water bottling plants, and unregulated extraction of groundwater will continue across the city. He stated that punitive measures will be taken against violators to ensure compliance with regulations.

Previous Reports Highlight Concerns

The Times of India, in its Johar Jharkhand page on April 5, had highlighted the issue of mushrooming water plants across the city. The report raised concerns about quality issues and health risks associated with the rapid proliferation of such facilities.

The RMC's action underscores its commitment to curbing illegal water usage and protecting groundwater resources. The corporation urges citizens to report any suspicious activities related to water extraction or unauthorised bottling plants.
