Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani announced that the Himachal Pradesh government has released Rs 2 crore for the construction of a Children Home at Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district. The government has also transferred 2 bighas of land in Palsoti village of Ghumarwin tehsil to the Department of Women and Child Development for the facility. Dharmani stated that work on the building would commence soon.
Budget Announcement and Legal Compliance
According to Dharmani, the amount was sanctioned as per the budget announcement made by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. This initiative aims to strengthen child care, protection, and rehabilitation services. The facility will be developed in accordance with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and the standards prescribed under it.
Facilities and Services Planned
The Children Home will provide children in need of care and protection with safe accommodation, quality education, counselling, rehabilitation, vocational training, and improved living facilities. The minister detailed that the institution would include two dormitories, two classrooms, a first-aid room, kitchen, dining hall, storage room, recreation room, library, adequate bathrooms and toilets, office space, counselling and guidance rooms, a workshop, separate rooms for the Juvenile Justice Board and the Child Welfare Committee, and a playground, along with other essential facilities.
Next Steps and Timeline
Dharmani said instructions have been issued to the concerned departments to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the construction of the Children Home so that work can begin at the earliest. He expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for approving the funds in his home constituency. Once established, the institution is expected to strengthen child protection services in Bilaspur district and provide needy children with a safe, dignified, and supportive environment for their overall development.
