The Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi is set to undertake a comprehensive beautification project at the Shantivan–Rajghat crossroads, a crucial junction near Rajghat that connects central, north, and east Delhi. This initiative aims to enhance the visual appeal, safety, and overall commuter experience at the intersection, which experiences heavy daily traffic movement and regular VIP and VVIP convoys due to its proximity to national memorial sites.
Project Details and Budget
According to official documents, approximately Rs 97 lakh has been allocated for the proposed revamp. Officials have stated that the project will focus on a blend of aesthetic enhancements and functional upgrades. The proposal includes landscaping work, improved road geometry, upgraded signage, and pedestrian-friendly features designed to streamline movement and improve safety at the busy junction.
Key Features of the Beautification
A major highlight of the project is the enhancement of lighting infrastructure to improve visibility and create a more organized streetscape. The scope of work includes the installation of customized architectural laser-cut bollards made from mild steel sheets, as well as architectural column lights nearly four meters in height. Decorative combo poles made from galvanized mild steel tubes are also proposed as part of the redesign.
Other planned improvements include better signage to guide traffic and pedestrians, improved road geometry to reduce congestion, and landscaping to add greenery and aesthetic value to the area. The project is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters and visitors to the Rajghat memorial complex.
The PWD aims to complete the project within the allocated budget, ensuring that the junction becomes a model of urban design and safety in the national capital.
