Sharjah Announces Free Eid Parking and Enhanced Transport Plan for 2026

In a significant move to facilitate holiday travel, Sharjah Municipality has declared that public parking will be free of charge for the first three days of Eid Al Fitr in 2026. This initiative aims to ease movement across the emirate, providing relief to residents and visitors during the festive period by eliminating parking fees on the first, second, and third days of the celebration.

Parking Exemption Details and Exceptions

The parking fee exemption applies broadly to standard public parking areas, allowing motorists to park without incurring costs. However, it is crucial to note that this exemption does not extend to smart parking lots and certain public parking zones, which will remain chargeable throughout the week and on official holidays. These areas are clearly marked with blue informational signs, and authorities strongly advise drivers to adhere to the signage to avoid potential fines.

Comprehensive Transport Plan for Eid

Alongside the parking announcement, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority has unveiled a detailed operational plan to ensure seamless mobility during Eid Al Fitr 2026. The plan is designed to manage the anticipated increase in travel and reduce congestion across the emirate.

  • Intercity Transport: A total of 4,600 trips will be operated on intercity transport routes throughout the holiday period.
  • Bus Frequency: Bus services will see increased frequency, with waiting times reduced to just five minutes during peak hours to accommodate passenger demand and minimize station congestion.
  • Local Public Transport: Within Sharjah, 12 routes will operate 1,144 trips daily, covering 527 bus stops with a fleet of 104 buses.
  • Marine Transport: Eight daily marine transport trips will run between Sharjah and Dubai, offering an alternative travel option to help alleviate pressure on road networks.

Goals and Benefits of the Combined Measures

The integrated approach of free parking and enhanced transport services is aimed at improving connectivity, supporting smooth travel, and ensuring a comfortable experience for all during the Eid celebrations. By reducing parking costs and boosting public transport capacity, authorities hope to encourage the use of alternative modes of transportation, thereby easing traffic flow and enhancing overall mobility. This proactive strategy reflects Sharjah's commitment to efficient urban management and resident well-being during major holidays.
