Sivakumar Takes Charge as KSRTC Managing Director in Karnataka
Sivakumar Appointed KSRTC Managing Director

Sivakumar, a 2010-batch IAS officer, officially took charge as the managing director of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on 22 June 2026. He succeeds the previous managing director and brings extensive experience from his prior role heading the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) for nearly a year.

Background and Previous Role

Before his appointment to KSRTC, Sivakumar served as the managing director of BMTC, where he oversaw the operations of one of India’s largest urban bus transport systems. His tenure at BMTC focused on improving service reliability and fleet management. According to transport department officials, his performance at BMTC was a key factor in his selection for the KSRTC post.

Immediate Priorities

Upon assuming charge, Sivakumar outlined his initial priorities, which include enhancing passenger safety, upgrading bus depots, and implementing digital ticketing systems across KSRTC’s network. He also emphasized the need to address staff welfare and reduce operational costs. “My focus will be on ensuring efficient and comfortable travel for commuters while maintaining financial discipline,” Sivakumar stated in a brief interaction with media after taking charge.

Challenges Ahead

KSRTC, which operates intercity and rural bus services across Karnataka, faces challenges such as aging fleets, rising fuel costs, and competition from private operators. The corporation has been working on fleet modernization and route rationalization. Sivakumar’s experience at BMTC, where he handled similar issues, is expected to be valuable. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy expressed confidence in Sivakumar’s leadership, noting that his track record at BMTC demonstrated strong administrative capability.

Industry Reactions

Transport analysts have welcomed the appointment, citing Sivakumar’s familiarity with Karnataka’s public transport landscape. “His transition from BMTC to KSRTC is logical, given the synergies between urban and state transport systems,” said a senior analyst at the Institute of Transport Studies. Employee unions have also expressed optimism, hoping for improved working conditions and timely wage revisions.
