Speed Radar Cameras Deployed on Six Udupi Highways

Mangaluru: Speeding on national highways in Udupi will now attract penalties. The Udupi police have deployed speed radar cameras across six key locations to crack down on reckless driving and prevent accidents.

If drivers exceed the speed limit, the cameras will capture the vehicle and its registration plate, instantly alerting the police control room. A traffic challan is then sent directly to the address of the vehicle owner.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar stated that speed radar cameras have been installed on the following stretches: Karkala-Doopadakatte, Padubidre-Uchila, Kaup-Dandatirtha, Kota-Thekkatte, Gangolli-Trasi, and Byndoor-Nayakana Katte. The cameras will detect overspeeding, triple riding on two-wheelers, riding without helmets, seatbelt violations, using cellphones while driving, wrong-side driving, and other traffic violations.

Speed limits for each highway stretch have been fixed according to the National Highways Authority of India rules, he added. The district control room will monitor traffic movement and track violations in real time. Following this, challans will be sent to the address of the vehicle owners. Those who receive the challans must pay the fine within seven days of receipt, the SP warned.
